David Newman (they/he) is a director, intimacy coordinator, writer, & deviser. David strives to create work that feels like a lemonhead; sweet, saccharine, and candied at first sight, but sour, biting, & piercing when audiences bite down. Uncovering the beauty in suffering and the beauty in bliss, David’s work glamorizes the tragedies and absurdities that plague our world. They aim to remind audiences of how pretty and beautifully tragic life can be.

Through the endless possibilities of theatre, David aims to overcome life’s impossibilities. They love telling stories about love, particularly ones that center gender non-conforming voices. He also loves physical theatre, flowers, glitter, soul-pumping music, and dreamy ballrooms.

David has received a BA in Directing from Pace University, with additional training at The Drama League, Theatrical Intimacy Education, and The Institute of the Arts Barcelona.

Currently, he is a proud Theatre Operations Intern at Jujamcyn Theaters, where they serve the administrative departments of the venues that play The Book of Mormon, Funny Girl, Hadestown, Into the Woods, & Moulin Rouge.
