Prof. David Newman (Ben-Gurion University), who served as dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, and who deals with political geography and geopolitics with a focus on border research, was given the title of “Officer of the Order of the British Empire” by the Queen of England, as reported on the NRG website.
Newman received the title at a glittering ceremony held at Windsor Castle, following his contribution to higher education, the humanities and the advancement of academic relations between England and the State of Israel.
Prof. David Newman, who grew up and was educated in Britain, and studied at London University and Durham University, said, “It is a great honor for me. There is supreme importance in the advancement of scientific partnerships between Israel and Britain. These are scientific collaborations which serve the whole of humanity, and do not distinguish between people based on their ethnic, national or religious backgrounds.”
“This is also an unequivocal statement by the British government against any attempt to boycott Israeli universities, regardless of the two countries’ political positions in all aspects concerning Israel’s policies with regard to the Palestinians,” added David Newman. “Science transcends political boundaries, and this is reflected in the creation of even stronger scientific ties and collaborations between the two countries.”
